Spiritual and cultural yoga-ayurveda tour (24/09 to 07/10/2017)
We let you experience the mystical power of the Himalaya with a unique combination of spiritual and cultural events. Travelling through three states, Punjab, Himachal Pradesh and Uttaranchal, you will discover several of the ancient places where the religions of Asia were born. Yoga, Ayurveda treatment and the fresh mountain air lift up your spirit and body.
Highlight is the Dussehra festival, the celebration of the victory of good over evil.
Day 1 – 24/09/2017:
Arrival in Delhi and transfer to hotel. Free day to discover Delhi.
Day 2 – 25/09/2017:
We take the train to Amritsar, a 6 hour journey. We check in to our hotel and after lunch we visit the Sikh Golden temple, a place of great beauty and peacefulness. Amritsar means 'pool of ambrosial nectar', a drink of the gods. The name reflects the spirit, power and energetic character of this sacret place.
In the evening we drive to the Wagah Border (Indo-Pakistan border), around 30 km from Amritsar. Here we witness the Beating Retreat ceremony of the Indian and Pakistan soldiers, a daily military practice.
Day 3 – 26/09/2017:
A 6 hour drive will take us to the base of the Himalay, to Dharamshala (1830 m). The suburb McLeodGanj is the home of the Dalai Lama. We take an evening walk and discover the colorfull streets and shops.
Day 4 - 27/09/2017:
We visit the impressive Namgyal Monastery, turn the prayer wheels and admire the artwork of the monks.
Day 5 - 28/09/2017:
We leave early in the morning and drive to Manali (250 km-7 hours). On the way we visit the famous 13th-century Shiva temple at Baijnath, who is dedicated to Shiva as Vaidyanath, the lord of physicians. The temple is built in the Shikhera style and are remarkable for its proportion and architectural beauty.
In the evening, we are welcomed at the Amar Guest House in Vashist, where we will spend the night.
Day 6 - 29/09/2017:
We start the day with a early morning Yoga class, followed by a home made breakfast.
We go to Manali, and between the majestic Cedar trees, we admire the beautiful Hadima temple.
Afterwards we visit Manali and old Manali, and enjoy the friendly town and its market and shops.
We spend a second night in our guest house.
Day 7 - 30/09/2017:
Today is the big day, the Dussehra Festival! We make a good start with a yoga class and a delicious breakfast.
We drive to Kullu to enter fully into the colorful and noisy spectacle of the Dussehra Festival. Kullu Dussehra is a week-long festival during which Goddess Hadima is carried from the temple in Manali down to Kullu. The goddess is then taken to Dhalpur where the idol of Lord Raghunath joins. Gods and goddesses from all over the valley come to meet Hadimba and Lord Raghunath.
There are cultural performances and exhibitions which are organized during this festival. Most of the deities in the valley are present on this occasion. A fascinating highlight of this festival is the big procession and participation of people from all over the hilly areas (and other parts of India) adding color and gaiety.
We spend a last night in our guest house.
Day 8 - 01/10/2017:
After a last breakfast we leave the Himalaya and take the zigzag road down to Chandigarh, a city planned by the famous Swiss architect Le Corbusier.
After this long and spectacular drive (8 hours, 315 km), we spend a calm evening at the market of Chandigarh and take a good sleep in our hotel.
Day 9 - 02/10/2017:
Today we will indulge our eyes in the Rock Garden and our nose in the Rose Garden, which is one of the largest in Asia, with about 1,600 varieties of roses.
If time permits we will also visit the museum and art gallery.
We hit the road again (5 hours drive) to reach Rishikesh in the evening, where we will spend the next three days.
Day 10 to 12 - 3/10 until 5/10:
Rishikesh is situated on the banks of the river Ganges, known from medieval times as a great pilgrimage centre, attracting large numbers of pilgrims, saints and sages (sadhus). It is known for its centre for yoga and meditation. We will visit ashrams and temples and witness the evening ritual ceremony at TriveniGhat, when hundreds of people float little flower bowls with oil lamps on the river.
You have serveral options for this three day stay.
Every morning a yoga session given by a local teacher wakes you up and prepares you for the day.
You can choose to take a ayurvedic experience, which includes a visit to an ayurvedic doctor. Following his advices, you can take massages, start a diet plan, receive medicines and treatments. This option cost an additional 280 euro, and is provided in the hotel where you stay.
Or you can visit interesting places, observe the live on the banks of the Ganges, take amazing pictures and taste good food. Or maybe combine both options?

Day 13 - 6/10
This is the last day of our journey in this amazing country. We take the train to Delhi, where we visit the Kutub Minar. We enjoy a rickshaw ride to the Red Fort. In the evening we are transferred to the airport, where we can wash and change our clothes.
Day 14 : 07/10/2017
Flying back home, with a peaceful mind and thousands of beautiful impressions in our head!
